Websites for SaaS and startups

A SaaS site has to explain the product in the time a visitor gives it, and turn that into a trial or a demo. It should also let marketing ship a page without waiting for engineering.

Ask this about your site

Does a visitor understand the product before they scroll?

A quick way to judge the site you have. Where the honest answer is no, the visitor opens a competitor’s tab.

  1. 01

Can someone say what the product does, and for whom, after one screen?

  2. 02

Is the price on the site, or do people have to ask?

  3. 03

Can a visitor see the product itself, not only read about it?

  4. 04

Is there one next step, a trial or a demo, on every page?

  5. 05

Can marketing launch a page this week without a developer?

What makes a SaaS website sell

  1. Lesson 01

    Say it in one sentence

If the first line needs a second one to explain it, visitors leave before either.

  2. Lesson 02

    Let them see it

A screen of the product answers more questions than a page of claims.

  3. Lesson 03

    Pricing is a sales page

Buyers go there early. A clear table with one recommended plan does part of the selling for you.

What a good SaaS website gives you

  1. 01

More trials from the same traffic

Visitors who understand the product and see the price start a trial instead of leaving to compare.

  2. 02

    Launch pages in days

Sections and CMS templates that marketing can reuse, so a campaign does not wait for a sprint.

  3. 03

A site that keeps up with the product

Changelog, integrations and customer stories that your team updates without help.

How a SaaS website should look and sound

Clear, confident and specific.

These are rules of thumb. The site itself is built around your brand, your clients and your taste.

  • Show the product

Real screens, in motion where that helps. Abstract illustrations say nothing about what the customer will use.

  • One idea per screen

A visitor scans. Each section should make one point and move on.

  • Proof with numbers

Customers, results and reviews, with a figure wherever you have one.

  • A calm base, one strong accent

The interface in your screenshots carries the colour. The page around it should stay out of the way.

Questions

How do I know whether our site is costing us sign-ups?

Compare visitors with trials started. If most people leave from the first screen or from pricing, those are the two pages to fix first.

Can marketing really run the site without engineers?

Yes. That is the reason to build a marketing site in Webflow: pages, posts and landing pages are edited visually, and the product stays in your own code.

Will forms, analytics and experiments survive a rebuild?

Yes, if they are listed before the work starts. I map every form, event and test first, and check each one after launch.

What it usually takes

New site or redesign

A new Webflow site, or a redesign of the one you have, designed and built by one person. Structure, copy, CMS and launch included.

Service

New pages and CMS templates

Landing pages, subpages and CMS templates, built from your Figma file or extended from what the site already has.

Service

Integrations

Your Webflow site connected to the tools the company already runs on: forms into the CRM, analytics that measures the right things, and consent that holds tags back.
