Agency retainer or hourly developer: the maths for small changes

A retainer buys availability. If you use four hours a month, you are paying for six you did not need.

Costs

Most Webflow sites need a few hours of work a month: a new section, a text change, a form that stopped sending. Agencies usually sell that as a retainer with a monthly minimum. The minimum is where the cost comes from.

When a retainer is the right choice

A retainer makes sense when you need a team: strategy, design, development and campaigns running at once. It is the wrong tool for keeping one site up to date.

Agency figures are typical US rates and will vary.
